Pays to complain!

So, the other day after my Walgreens mishap of the manager telling me no Register Reward will print if I use a manufacturers coupon and he TOLD me to call 1-800-walgreens I emailed them. I asked Walgreens why they do not have signs at the item or in the flier stating if you use a manufacturer's coupon you won't get this RR they are promoting. Or if this is not the case (which I knew it wasn't) then they need to re-educate their employees on how it really works.

Last night I got a phone call from this same manager who told me to call Walgreens. He apologized to me and said there is a $10 GC waiting for me at the store for the $2rr he owes me and my troubles.

I might have to go shopping today to go get it. We are supposed to get snow Sunday night and Monday morning. FIVE inches is what they are guessing, so that means if we are lucky we will get a dusting...

New Motto "It's Like taking candy from a baby"

I had to get my Rx filled so I decided to hit a few CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens (where my Rx is) and Harris Teeter.
My first stop was at CVS-I bought

1 Extreme Energy 6hr
used $5 ECB to pay After I had to go get a manager to allow me to loose a PENNY of ECB
ZERO OOP

I received a $4.99 ECB

Next was Walgreens

When I picked my my RX I also got a bottle of Excederin and used a $1Q and received a $1 RR back. I used my FSA card to pay.
I then went and got
2 A&W root Beer
2 Sunkist ($1/2Q)
2 Starbucks Chocolates ($1/1Q+ $6/2 ESR)
6 Hershey candy bars (bogo Q+Store BOGO Q)
I used $1 RR to help pay. After much debate over whether or not I could use my BogoMQ and the Bogo SQ i convienced them to TRY it and even after the manager said "fine try it but it won't work..." IT DID WORK!
my total OOP was $6.27
total savings $17.24 ($15.68 Q)

Being totally frustrated with both these CVS and WAGs I went to a CVS I normally go to and purchased

1 Extreme Energy $4.99
1 Reach Ultra Floss ($1/1q) sale $1.50
1 Maloxx ($1/1q) clearance $3.74
used $8.00 in ECB to pay

Total OOP $.28
received $7.99 in ECB-no crying or complaining by cashier or myself....

Next was Rite Aid

3 Coke 12pks ($1/3 store Q)
16 pks Wrigleys gum (BogoQ) bogo sale
1 Fruitric Hair Spray ($1/1Q) sale $2.99
1 Tootsie Roll clearance $.49

used $5/$20 order IP that was emailed to me

paid $3.79 on GC
Paid $2.68 OOP
Savings $17.32

Will get $2.99 back for rebate on hair spray

Went across the street to Harris Teeter-I love my Harris Teeter! I had to do 3 transactions because of the buy $25 worth of paper products get $5 OYNO vic card. I was only going to do 2 transactions, but I messed up with some raincheck stuff at UScan and had to get those items seperate.

2 Angel Soft ($.50Q) sale $5.99
5 Colgate Tooth Paste ($.75/1Q) sale $1.50
5 Colgate Tooth brushes ($.75/1) sale $1.50
2 Glade Plug In Oil Fan (free item Q) sale $3.44

1 HT OJ reg $2.50
5 Freezer Ziploc ($.55/1) sale BOGO $2.89/2
1 HT Fried Chicken ($1.50 WT) sale $4.99
used $5 OYNO Vic paper

total OOP $57.53
savings $140.66 ($57.18)

To explain the title... After going to CVS and being told "we aren't ALLOWED to adjust ECBs" which makes no sense, if I want to LOOSE money on my ECB then isn't that my problem and not thiers? Why is it every other store I have been too will adjust an ECB with no problem? I was told "it is for the buyers protection."

Then going across the street to Walgreens and being told
1. I can't use a Manufacturer's coupon and receive an RR
2. I can't use a Store Bogo Q and a Manufacturer's Bogo Q because "it won't work"
3. You can't pay with a RR and get back another RR for a different deal.

I have decided that what I do (couponing, rebates, working the system in MY favor LEGALLY) that it is like taking candy from a baby. There may be some whining and crying involved but in the end I still end up with the candy.

Walgreens and Harris Teeter

Since I had to go to the dentist this morning, I figured I would go ahead and hit Walgreens and Ht that are on the way anyway.

My first stop was Walgreens, I did 3 transactions altogether-

4 Starbucks Chocolate ($1/1Q+$6/2 ESQ)$5.99
18 Hershey Bars (bogoQ+Bogo StoreQ) reg $.50 and $.89
8 2ltr Soda ($1/2 on 4 of them) sale $1.25 (supposed to get $2 register reward for 4 purchased)
1 Excederin ($1/1Q) sale $1.99 (get $1 Register reward after purchase)
1 Valentine day hearts sale $.10

Used $1 RR to help pay
Did not get my $2 rr and manager refused to give it to me because I used coupons (BULL!)
Didn't get my $2 RR on second transaction with NO coupon used, Manager gave me that $2

Put $19.13 on GC
Paid $1.92 in cash
Refunded $4.19

I must remind myself this is why I don't like Walgreens. If something doesn't work out the way the ad says it should, then it is because you used coupons. That is always the answer!

It is a good day today, I got a $10 rebate check from Bud and also a $20 ebay payment.

I also saved us $25 by doing a little bit of research this morning. In an effort to try and save more money on our utility bills I have considered getting a Hot water heater blanket. Our Hot water heater is kept on the garage and it is gas powered. I went to Ask.com and simply typed in "Does a hot water heater blanket really save you money" and it took me to The Dollar Stretcher where someone asked that question and specifically stated theirs too was in the garage. Basically he said the newer units are more energy efficient and have more insulation in them. A simple test is to put your hand on the outside of your HWH and see if it is warm, if it is then you need a blanket (which will save you 25% overall). Mine was cool to the touch so I don't need to go out and buy one.

Food Lion+ Have you checked your phone bill lately?

I didn't bother taking a picture. I went to Food Loin and got
1 dozen eggs -reg $1.59
Duncan Hines cupcake Mix ($1flip) reg $1

$1.62 on my gift card

The other day I called At&t to find out if I could get something cheaper for my Internet service.

When we first moved here we didn't get a land line, we had cell phones with perfect reception so why would I need a land line? I waited for a month before Charter Communications got their cable up and running. Well, long story short, after 2 years, Charter pissed me off so I switched -though I never really had a problem with their service, it is their customer service and the morons working for them I had issue with. Anyway, I decided money was no object and decided I could pay $20 a month more for a phone line and DSL.

Well, times have changed and I have reconsidered trying to get my bills lowered. I had seen on TV where they said no matter what the bill is call and see if you can get something lower, from credit cards to phone to electric. So I decided I would call At&t and see what they could do. I mean I had a flier in front of me from Charter saying their monthly service was $24.99 a month -though how they get you is that is only for 6 months, when I signed up with them, my bill went from $24.99 a month to $59.99 a month in $5-$10 increments for the exact same service.

I called At&t and they said I could drop the land line and they will charge me $5 more for just the DSL, but then the guy said for $4 more than that I can keep my land line. Since I have children I thought that might be a good idea to keep the land line. I never use my long distance so that was just a waste and the extras- caller Id, call waiting and all that jazz was a waste too (though caller ID was nice but not necessary). He said with taxes it would end up being $52. I said I would do it that way. He told me things would be switched around on Feb 2nd. Well today I got my phone bill that was produced on Feb 5th. Nothing had changed, I still have my $85 phone bill! I was not happy. I called them and this person has no clue what I am talking about then says I was not set to switch until the 12th. Then she told me they only had a $19.99 plan, and it would be $65 a month after taxes. What the??? Why the difference? She couldn't tell me, other than the first guy was wrong. I told her if it will be that much then let me drop the land line altogether. She transfers me to who ever it is that cancels the stuff...

Well here is where things change. This new person says that they DO have something similar to what the first person told me, but he explained it wrong. The overall total will be the same. So here is the break down.
If I cancel my long distance they will give me a break on my DSL...yes that is right, they will discount my DSL $12! My local service will be $19.00 a month. Does that make sense? So if I drop a service I get a discount, you would think the more you have the better the discount...WRONG!!! So to anyone reading this, you need to call your phone company and threaten to stop a service and see what kind of DISCOUNTED services they offer.
Plus she made it so things change TONIGHT, as in 12 hours from when I called her...this other guy said it would be 2 days after I called him, but it was actually set up to be 14 days after!

Well, the end of the story is my phone bill is going from $85 a month down to $52 and I am now only paying for services I actually use. I never used the 200 minutes of long distance I was given every month-so that is what we dropped. Now if we make a long distance phone call it is $.15 a minute. The reason I signed up for the long distance , at the time I had to sign up for it-along with the caller ID stuff. It was a spend $10 save $20 sort of thing. Now I am ticked I that I have wasted $792, they have had this deal for the past 2 years they said! We have had our phone for about 2.1 years.

Harris Teeter Triples Day #1

I woke up a little early so I could get my wash hung before I left. I wanted to go right after I dropped #3 off at the bus. OF COURSE the bus was late today, and had I waited for the bus it would have been over 45 minutes late! I decided after waiting for 15 minutes past when she should have gotten there just to take him to school. It was killing me to have to wait!

I guess I don't feel as though there at that many deals to be had at Harris Teeter. I only went to 3 stores and the second 2 I didn't even use all 20 coupons I was allotted. These 2 other stores seemed to have slightly higher prices than mine too and I didn't want to pay for things at their store when I could get it from mine for free.

Snow Day Harris Teeter HT triples tomorrow!

We got more snow than they thought we would. Kids have a snow day. I took them to HT only purchased 2 things though.
1 Pork Lion cut into chops ($1/1Q) sale $2.99lb
1 HT doubleroll TP Sale $4.97 (evic $2 off)

I paid $24.50, but the $2 didn't come off for the TP so I got that refunded to me.

I do not consider $2.99 a good price for Stock up purposes. HOWEVER, I bought 3 or 4 of these when they were on sale a few months back for $1.99 and we are completely out. I must have pork chops for husband who can not eat any poultry. $2.99 is an OK price for me to buy what I need for now.

Yesterday the kids spent $2.92 getting Pringles and cups used $6 worth of flips.

What am I planning on buying during Triples tomorrow?

Smithfield Bacon (bogo and $.55Q)
Muir Glen Tomatoes ($2.19 and $.75/1Q)
